A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE RICHARD WINN ACADEMY GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2016 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased to learn that the members of the Richard Winn Academy girls basketball team recently took home their fourth consecutive state championship title; and

Whereas, the Eagles completed this excellent season with a 27-1 record, bringing their total record for the past four years to 142-4; and

Whereas, the Eagles' win did not come easily. Richard Winn was down by nine in the second quarter, but the team's defense came to life and finished the game against the Dorchester Raiders 43-30; and

Whereas, player of the year Jaycie Johnson scored eighteen points for the Eagles, Alyssa Atkerson added ten points, and Marion Walker Coleman scored nine; and

Whereas, the team's All Region players include Alyssa Atkerson, Bailey Taylor, and Jaycie Johnson. All State players were Alyssa Atkerson, Marion Walker Coleman, Bailey Taylor, and Jaycie Johnson; and

Whereas, in a sport that demands strength, speed, and determination, Head Coach Jason Haltiwanger and his skilled coaching staff capitalized on their own athletic ability and training to forge a championship team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off court; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the pride and recognition that the Richard Winn Academy girls basketball players have brought to their school and community and look to hearing of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Richard Winn Academy girls basketball team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2016 South Carolina Independent School Association Class A State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Jason Haltiwanger.
