A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR ZION WILLIAMSON FOR AN OUTSTANDING BASKETBALL SEASON AT DUKE UNIVERSITY AND TO WISH HIM ALL THE BEST AS HE ENTERS THE NBA DRAFT IN JUNE 2019.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased and proud to celebrate Duke University basketball player Zion Williamson for a fabulous season, one so exceptional that he has decided to enter the 2019 NBA draft; and

Whereas, born July 6, 2000, in Salisbury, North Carolina, Zion Lateef Williamson attended Spartanburg Day School in South Carolina, where he was a consensus five-star recruit and was ranked among the top five players in the 2018 class. He led his team to three straight state championships and earned South Carolina Mr. Basketball recognition in his senior season. He also left high school as a McDonald's All-American, runner-up for Mr. Basketball USA, and USA Today All-USA first team honoree. In high school, he drew national attention for his slam dunks; and

Whereas, in his freshman season with Duke, Zion was named ACC Player of the Year and ACC Rookie of the Year. He set the single-game school scoring record for freshmen in January 2019, claimed ACC Rookie of the Week accolades five times, earned AP Player of the Year status and Sporting News College Player of the Year recognition, and captured the Wayman Tisdale Award; and

Whereas, listed at 6 feet 7 inches and 285 pounds, Zion plays the small forward and power forward positions. According to many sports analysts, he is projected to be the first overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft; and

Whereas, those who have worked with Zion recognize his humility, his sense of humor in interviews, his unselfishness on and off the court, his otherworldly passing ability and potentially ball-popping blocks, his knack for intercepting opponents' passes, his infectious energy, his diesel frame, his guard-like quickness, and his ability to play up to five positions; and

Whereas, with admiration, the House offers best wishes to Zion as he prepares for the NBA draft, and the members look forward to hearing of this fine young athlete's continued high accomplishments in the years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Zion Williamson for an outstanding basketball season with Duke University and wish him all the best as he enters the NBA draft in June 2019.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Zion Williamson.
