A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE JUDGE DOYET A. "JACK" EARLY, III UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT, TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Judge Doyet A. "Jack" Early, III upon the occasion of his retirement; and

Whereas, Judge Doyet A. "Jack" Early, III was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina to D.A. "Jack" and Olivia Prevette "Billie" Early. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1971 and from the University of South Carolina School of Law with a Juris Doctor in 1974. He was a member of the RHO Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order; and

Whereas, Judge Early practiced law in Bamberg, South Carolina for thirty years. In 1975, he founded his own private practice, which eventually became the firm of Early and Ness. He practiced criminal law; civil trial litigation; and family, probate, and real estate law and served as the county attorney for Bamberg County for twenty-five years. He has been admitted to practice in all South Carolina Courts, the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals; and

Whereas, on February 4, 2004, he was elected resident judge of the Second Judicial Circuit, and on May 1, 2004, he began his duties in this role; and

Whereas, a leader in his professional community, Judge Early has been a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association, American Trial Lawyers Association, American Board of Trial Attorneys, Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline, Judicial Qualifications Committee of the South Carolina Bar, and Bamberg County Public Defender Corporation, where he served as president. He also served on the local advisory board of South Carolina Bank and Trust Bamberg, as chairman of the South Carolina Heart Fund, and as president of the Bamberg-Erhardt Red Raider Booster Club; and

Whereas, he and his wife, Lee Foy Early, live on their farm in Bamberg County and in Mount Pleasant. They have two sons, William and Ross; two daughters-in-law, Dasher and Natasha; and three grandchildren, Doyet Lesesne Early, Harvey All Foy Early, and William Jennings Early; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for the diligence and commitment that Judge Doyet A. "Jack" Early, III has shown in serving the people and the State of South Carolina. The members take immense pleasure in wishing him well as he enters retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Judge Doyet A. "Jack" Early, III upon the occasion of his retirement, commend him for his many years of dedicated service, and wish him continued success in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Judge Doyet A. "Jack" Early, III.
