A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR CINDY POHAR OF SUMMERVILLE FOR HER YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AND OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SOUTH CAROLINA GEODETIC SURVEY AND THE PROFESSIONAL LAND SURVEYORS OF THIS STATE, TO CONGRATULATE HER ON HER RECENT RETIREMENT, AND TO WISH HER MUCH CONTINUED SUCCESS AND FULFILLMENT IN THE DAYS AHEAD.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina Senate pauses in its deliberations to recognize Cindy Pohar of Summerville for her significant service to the land surveying community of this great State and to salute her on being named to receive the 2020 South Carolina Society of Professional Land Surveyors Service to the Profession award; and

Whereas, Ms. Pohar began her career with the South Carolina Geodetic Survey in 1986 while attending Midlands Technical College to obtain her degree in civil engineering technology; and

Whereas, over the course of her career, her responsibility was to transition geodetic information from old methodologies to emerging systems; and

Whereas, Ms. Pohar was instrumental in helping create a program used by the South Carolina Geodetic Survey known as GRITS (Geodetic Retrieval and Information Transfer System), which made the National Spatial Reference System available for use via the World Wide Web; and

Whereas, she helped the surveying community transition from reaching out to the Geodetic Survey for geodetic information to accessing the information using the internet in real time; and

Whereas, she managed the state's county mapping program, in which she worked with county assessors' offices providing requests for proposals that could be used as templates to advertise county mapping projects; and

Whereas, her career at the South Carolina Geodetic Survey was remarkable because she assisted many surveyors and South Carolina counties in their work by helping transition the department into the era of instant information through the internet; and

Whereas, the Senate recognizes that the success of the State of South Carolina, the strength of its communities, and the vitality of American society as a whole depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of individuals like Cindy Pohar who use their talents and resources to serve others. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, honor Cindy Pohar of Summerville for her years of dedicated service and outstanding contributions to the South Carolina Geodetic Survey and the professional land surveyors of this State, congratulate her on her recent retirement, and wish her much continued success and fulfillment in the days ahead.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Cindy Pohar.
