Explanation of Fiscal Impact

Introduced on January 23, 2019

State Expenditure

This bill adds Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents to the list of federal law enforcement officers authorized to enforce criminal laws in the state. The bill does not require any agency action and does not operationally or fiscally impact state agencies or local governments. Therefore, the bill does not have an expenditure impact on the general fund, federal funds, or other funds.

A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 23-1-212 OF THE 1976 CODE, RELATING TO THE ENFORCEMENT OF STATE CRIMINAL LAWS BY FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS, TO PROVIDE THAT NAVAL CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIVE SERVICE AGENTS ARE AUTHORIZED TO ENFORCE THE STATE'S CRIMINAL LAWS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 23-1-212(A) of the 1976 Code is amended by adding an appropriately numbered item to read:

"(    )    Naval Criminal Investigative Service Agents."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
