A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR CONNER LEWIS, COACH OF THE GREENWOOD CHRISTIAN SCHOOL WRESTLING PROGRAM, FOR HIS OUTSTANDING SUCCESS DURING THE PROGRAM'S FORMATIVE YEARS AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES FOR MUCH CONTINUED SUCCESS IN THE MATCHES TO COME.

Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly is pleased to learn of the recent success of members of the Greenwood Christian School wrestling program as they competed at the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) state championship; and

Whereas, officially formed in 2018, Greenwood Christian School's wrestling program remains the only SCISA program in the Upstate, as well as being one of only eleven such programs statewide; and

Whereas, despite the tremendous difficulties that inevitably arise as a program starts, the wrestlers at Greenwood Christian School have valiantly and with great effort overcome those hurdles under the guidance of Coach Lewis. In 2020, only two years after the program began, the team finished fourth altogether, and already had its first individual state champion in the one hundred and sixty pound weight class, Cale Mack. Returning in 2021, the program elevated two additional individuals as state champions, Casen Goff in the one hundred and ninety-five pound weight class, and Will Moore, in the two hundred and eighty-five pound weight class; and

Whereas, Coach Lewis has done a remarkable job taking the natural attributes of the young men who have come out for the burgeoning program and turning them into well-developed and well-rounded athletes. Due to the nature of the competition, wrestling is a sport where the amount of work you put in directly correlates to the kind of success you see on the mat. Coach Lewis has inspired and demanded the kind of hard work necessary to develop promising athletes into champions and serious competitors; and

Whereas, Representative McCravy, Senator Garrett, and the other members of the General Assembly are pleased to applaud the success of Coach Lewis and the athletes wrestling for Greenwood Christian School and have confidence that, under the leadership of the team's coaches, the Hawks will excel in the years ahead as the program continues to establish and make a name for itself. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor Conner Lewis, Coach of the Greenwood Christian School wrestling program, for his outstanding success during the program's formative years and extend best wishes for much continued success in the matches to come.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Conner Lewis.
