A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA'S FABULOUS DANCE TEAM, THE CAROLINA GIRLS, ON CAPTURING FIRST PLACE IN DIVISION I-A DANCE TEAM PERFORMANCE AT THE 2021 NATIONAL DANCE ALLIANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are delighted to learn that the Carolina Girls dance team, a University of South Carolina (UofSC) Athletics Department spirit squad, placed first in the 2021 National Dance Alliance National Team Division I-A Finals; and

Whereas, held at Dayton Beach, Florida, the competition concluded on Friday, April 9, 2021, with the Gamecock squad winning the title with 95.8 points, followed by the University of Louisville with 94.2 points and Iowa State University in third with 94.14 points; and

Whereas, as their first national championship, it was a historic victory for the squad and their coach, Lindsay Sprague. Prior to this year, the team had frequently placed in the top five in the competition, most recently in 2019. The 2020 national collegiate championship was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic; and

Whereas, the Carolina Girls dance team was established in the fall of 2007 and since that time has become well-known for its entertaining performances at Williams-Brice Stadium and Colonial Life Arena. The team's new national championship was recognized at the Gamecocks' April 11 baseball game and again on the evening of April 11, when Capstone was lit in their honor; and

Whereas, proud of these fine young athletes, the General Assembly applauds this latest achievement of the UofSC Carolina Girls, and the members look with interest to hearing of their further accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate the University of South Carolina's fabulous dance team, the Carolina Girls, on capturing first place in Division I-A dance team performance at the 2021 National Dance Alliance Championships.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to President Bob Caslen and Coach Lindsay Sprague of the University of South Carolina.
