A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE HONORABLE VICTOR GLENN STEPHENS, SUMMARY COURT JUDGE IN DORCHESTER COUNTY, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER ALMOST THREE DECADES OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives have learned that Victor Glenn Stephens will begin a well-deserved retirement after twenty-nine years as a distinguished and highly-regarded Summary Court judge in Dorchester County and will be honored for his service at a ceremony on June 8, 2022; and

Whereas, born on September 17, 1949, Glenn is the son of Victor and Bobbie Stephens and was reared in Dorchester with his two siblings, Janice and Barry; and

Whereas, he graduated from Harleyville Ridgeville High School in 1967 and attended Trident Technical College; and

Whereas, Mr. Stephens joined the South Carolina National Guard, serving for six years, and during that time he managed and was a part owner of Harleyville Building Supply, a family business; and

Whereas, he became president of Kizer Stephens Lumber Company, and when the lumber mill closed, he became a lumber buyer for Koppers Company; and

Whereas, Mr. Stephens has two fine sons, Vic and Will Stephens. In 1987, he married his beloved wife, Barbara Williams. She brought with her a beautiful daughter, Sims. Together with her husband, Bryan Weathers, Sims has blessed them with three loving granddaughters: Abigail, Rylee, and Harper; and

Whereas, in 1993, he was appointed by then Governor of South Carolina Carroll A. Campbell, Jr., to serve as a Summary Court judge in Dorchester County; and

Whereas, Judge Stephens' career on the bench has made the lives of those in the Dorchester community better, as he cared deeply for those he served and looked for ways to give people a second chance; and

Whereas, he plans to spend many happy hours of retirement working on his farm, especially enjoying time on his tractor, as well as spending time with his family and working on numerous projects; and

Whereas, grateful for his many years of distinguished service, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives take great pleasure in extending best wishes to Glenn Stephens for enjoyment in his well-earned retirement as he transitions to the unhurried pace of the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the Honorable Victor Glenn Stephens, Summary Court Judge in Dorchester County, upon the occasion of his retirement after almost three decades of exemplary service and wish him continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Victor Glenn Stephens.
