A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR CYNTHIA ALSTON BELL OF DORCHESTER COUNTY FOR HER EXEMPLARY AND SIGNIFICANT COMMUNITY SERVICE.

Whereas, it is altogether fitting and proper that the South Carolina House of Representatives should pause in its deliberations to commend Cynthia Alston Bell for her extensive and meaningful community service; and

Whereas, a native of Givhans, Cynthia Bell graduated from Summerville High School and earned a bachelor's degree in social welfare/sociology from South Carolina State University; and

Whereas, after graduation, she began her professional career working with emotionally handicapped students at Alston Middle School, and two years later, she became the first literacy coordinator for Dorchester County Schools; and

Whereas, Ms. Bell currently serves as a senior marketing consultant for Cumulus Media; and

Whereas, actively engaged in serving her community, she focuses on the needs of the underserved; and

Whereas, Ms. Bell is a member and past president of the Summerville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the regional coordinator of the Arts and Letters committee for the sorority's South Atlantic Region; an advisory board member of Black Expo; and the chair of the trustee board at Central Missionary Baptist Church in Summerville; and

Whereas, an inspirational speaker in the Charleston area, she has served as a past board member of My Sister's House, the Charleston Trident Urban League, and the Association for the Blind; and

Whereas, Ms. Bell serves as a member of the auxiliary to the Charleston County Medical, Dental, and Pharmaceutical Association; first vice president for the Coalition of Minority Leaders in Higher Education; and marketing coordinator for Closing the Gap in Healthcare, Inc.; and

Whereas, together with her beloved husband, Dr. Thaddeus John Bell, she has one child, Taylor Alston; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives values the commitment to community service that marks the lives of citizens like Cynthia Bell, and the members take great pleasure in saluting her remarkable example. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Cynthia Alston Bell of Dorchester County for her exemplary and significant community service.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Cynthia Alston Bell.
