A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE GWENDOLYN MIMMS OF FOUNTAIN INN ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE DAYS AHEAD.

Whereas, on February 2, 2022, Gwendolyn Mimms of Fountain Inn will awaken to the celebration of a milestone event: her one hundredth birthday; and

Whereas, on February 2, 1922, Gwendolyn was born to Dr. John Cornelius Walton and Minnie Lee McDowell of Gray Court, the families of both her parents having resided in South Carolina since the 1700s; and

Whereas, in pursuance of higher education, Gwendolyn attended Lander College, where she studied art history; and

Whereas, the young Gwendolyn was first married to Andrew Lee Nance in 1941. Andrew's father was John Henry Nance, a South Carolina House member and chairman of the Railroad Commission (Ways and Means). The young couple became the parents of four children, John Richard Drayton Nance, Andrea Lee Nance, Shari Lillian Nance, and James Walton Nance. In 1965, Gwendolyn wed John Allen Mimms of Fountain Inn, the city she calls home today; and

Whereas, during a period of single parenting, she provided love, support, and laughter to each of her children, who count themselves blessed to have had such a mother. Gwendolyn, in turn, has been blessed to see her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren join the family and grow; and

Whereas, Gwendolyn strongly believes in active community involvement, and over the years she has put her convictions into action by serving her community in various capacities. She has been a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader and Sea Cadet volunteer, she initiated Beautify Fountain Inn painting of storefronts, and she has served her church. Further, she has served as a paper sketch artist for the Anderson Daily Mail; and

Whereas, it is a great pleasure to honor this daughter of South Carolina at the celebration of her one hundredth birthday and to join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this important life milestone. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Gwendolyn Mimms of Fountain Inn on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and much happiness in the days ahead.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Gwendolyn Mimms.
