A bill

to amend the South Carolina Code of Laws by adding Section 59-17-153 so as to provide Every public school shall maintain a supply of feminine hygiene products that female students may use free of charge, to provide this supply must be maintained in the office or the school nurse of the main office, and to define necessary terms.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

         

SECTION 1.   Chapter 17, Title 59 of the S.C. Code is amended by adding:

   Section 59-17-153.   (A) Every public elementary school, middle school, and high school shall maintain a supply of feminine hygiene products that female students may use free of charge. The supply must be maintained in the office of the school nurse or, if the school does not have a nurse's office, in the main office of the school.

   (B) For purposes of this section, "feminine hygiene products" means tampons, sanitary napkins, and other similar items.

SECTION 2.   This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
