VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
A senate RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE September 8-11, 2026, AS "Marion County Liberty Week" IN SOUTH CAROLINA and to commemorate Marion County's contributions to the American Revolutionary war.
Whereas, the year 2026 marks the two hundred-fiftieth anniversary of the United States of America, commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the enduring principles of liberty, self-government, and individual freedom upon which America was founded; and
Whereas, Marion County played a significant role in the American Revolutionary War, with its citizens demonstrating extraordinary courage and commitment in defense of the cause of independence throughout the Pee Dee region; and
Whereas, the men of the Britton's Neck Militia answered the call to serve, courageously defending their homes, families, and neighbors while contributing to the struggle for American independence; and
Whereas, Marion County proudly remembers not only the soldiers who volunteered their service, but also all patriots who sacrificed their time, labor, property, and lives in pursuit of liberty for future generations; and
Whereas, the success of the revolutionary cause depended not only upon those who fought on the battlefield, but also upon the families and citizens on the home front who safeguarded their homes and communities, cared for children, tended farms, provided supplies, nursed the wounded, and supported soldiers throughout the hardships of war; and
Whereas, Marion County Liberty Week provides an opportunity for citizens, schools, veterans, civic organizations, historical societies, churches, and community leaders to reflect upon the sacrifices of those who secured our freedoms and to inspire future generations with a greater appreciation for our shared history and heritage; and
Whereas, Marion County Liberty Week shall be observed beginning September 8, 2026, with commemorative events celebrating the county's revolutionary heritage and honoring the people whose courage and sacrifice helped establish the United States of America; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate express their deepest gratitude and respect for the members of the Britton's Neck Militia, for every patriot who volunteered in the cause of American independence, and for the families whose steadfast support and sacrifice on the home front sustained the fight for liberty. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize September 8-11, 2026, as "Marion County Liberty Week" in South Carolina and commemorate Marion County's contributions to the American Revolutionary War.
