A house RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR ANSLEY GRATZMILLER, A FOURTH GRADE STUDENT AT BUIST ACADEMY FOR ADVANCED STUDIES, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER FOR BEING THE STATE WINNER OF THE 2024-2025 SOUTH CAROLINA CHILDREN'S BOOK CHALLENGE.
Whereas, Ansley Gratzmiller, has won a grand prize in the 2025 South Carolina Children's Book Challenge for her book, Electra, A Girl's Journey to Electrical Safety; and
Whereas, the Children's Book Challenge, sponsored by Berkeley Electric Cooperative and the Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina, invited participating students from across the State to write and illustrate a children's book that focused on staying safe around electricity; and
Whereas, Ansley Gratzmiller's entry, Electra, A Girl's Journey to Electrical Safety, competed against books from across South Carolina after being selected by Berkeley Electric as the local finalist; and
Whereas, Ansley received a prize of five hundred dollars, and her book will be printed and mailed to elementary schools throughout South Carolina. Berkeley Electric also awarded her a prize of fifty dollars for winning the local challenge; and
Whereas, Electra, A Girl's Journey to Electrical Safety tells the story of a girl who learns respect for electrical safety with the help of supernatural visitors: the Ghost of Electric Co-ops, the Ghosts of Outlet Safety, the Ghost of Power Line Safety, and the Ghosts of Light Safety; and
Whereas, Ansley learned that electricity is a good thing to study but that it is not something to play with. She is grateful that her book will help other people her age to be safe when they realize the danger of being careless about electricity; and
Whereas, South Carolina's electric cooperatives have been committed to providing electric power to rural communities since 1938. This concern for communities and for the future of youth in South Carolina has carried forward until today; and
Whereas, by inspiring students to learn more about energy in the Palmetto State, South Carolina's electric cooperatives hope to spark a passion for critical thinking in the minds of tomorrow's leaders; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives values Ansley Gratzmiller's dedication, creativity, and significant contribution to the State of South Carolina, and the members extend best wishes to her for continued success in all of her endeavors. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Ansley Gratzmiller, a fourth grade student at Buist Academy for Advanced Studies, and congratulate her for being the state winner of the 2024-2025 South Carolina Children's Book Challenge.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Ansley Gratzmiller.
