A house RESOLUTION

to recognize and honor Galloway and Moseley jewelry store in Sumter County and to congratulate owners Britton Moseley and Danny Chandler upon the ninetieth anniversary of the store's sparkling presence in Sumter.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is delighted to learn that Galloway and Moseley, the oldest jewelry store in Sumter, is celebrating nine decades of dependable service during April 2025: nine decades of polishing engagement rings, repairing heirlooms, and helping customers express their love without uttering a single word; and

Whereas, like the light aqua box from Tiffany's, the elegant burgundy bag that delivers lovely gifts of fine jewelry from Galloway and Moseley's represents more than just fine jewelry. It stands as a symbol of the trust and legacy that the store has delivered to customers in Sumter for almost a century; and

Whereas, the Galloway and Moseley jewelry firm, initially on South Main Street in Sumter, was opened April 12, 1935, by founders G. Moseley and J. D. Galloway. Over time, the business has been handed down from generation to generation, and now Britton Moseley, son of G. B. Moseley, carries his family's half of the store's legacy on his shoulders; and

Whereas, Mr. Moseley grew up in the store, as a child searching the floor for scraps of gold and later taking on various responsibilities. He was a pivotal player in the store's migration in 1980 to its current location on Guignard Drive and in the landscaping of the storefront, taking the business from leasing to owning a brick and mortar building; and

Whereas, when Mr. Moseley grew serious about a career, he attended Gemological Institute of America to study gemology and take his place within the family business as owner and vice president; and

Whereas, the other half of the jewelry store's partnership rests on the shoulders of Danny Chandler, who was hired by G. B. Moseley. Mr. Chandler has spent fifty-one of the store's ninety years in learning different aspects of the business, from crafting jewelry, setting diamonds, working on the bench, and making sales to being owner and president now; and

Whereas, the two men have been equals in the business since 1996, and together they expanded the store's sparkle to a Florence location nearly twenty years ago in 2006. Both businesses have maintained the same quality collections, cuts, and customer service on which they were founded; and

Whereas, although diamonds may last forever, the jewelry industry has seen its changes, the biggest shift being technology. The business is highly regarded for its custom jewelry, and many of the wax molds, once upon a time, were carved by hand. Today, customers can come with printed pictures or vague ideas of what they desire, and through 3D printed molds, steady hands, and pure pizzazz from staff, they may walk away with unique pieces that will become the focal point of lasting and precious memories; and

Whereas, what has not changed is Galloway and Moseley's commitment to service. Mr. Chandler and Mr. Moseley hire and train employees who are eager to meet and exceed the high standards for serving third- and fourth-generation customers who seek out their inventory to add a sparkle to their special moments; and

Whereas, adding high standards one sparkle at a time, Galloway and Moseley enjoys the return of commitment from the Sumter community through the Rotary Club, the Sumter Merchants Association, and several other organizations. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Galloway and Moseley jewelry store in Sumter County and congratulate owners Britton Moseley and Danny Chandler upon the ninetieth anniversary of the store's sparkling presence in Sumter.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Danny Chandler and Britton Moseley.
