A house RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF JACK DAVID PLATING OF GREENVILLE COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS LARGE AND LOVING FAMILY AND HIS MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Jack David Plating at the age of seventy-two on April 26, 2025; and

Whereas, born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he grew up in a loving home with five siblings: brothers, Larry Plating, Steve Plating, and Tom Plating; and sisters, the late Marilyn Fisher and the late Cathy Dorchak; and

Whereas, he began his career of thirty-five years serving with Motorola C&E, Digital Paging, and A+ Communications; and

Whereas, in 1989, Mr. Plating moved to Greenville to join Metro Mobile, helping to lead the company through several mergers that ultimately shaped Verizon Wireless, where he served as chief operating officer (COO); and

Whereas, after retiring in 2010, he devoted his time to supporting new entrepreneurial ventures and connecting people through his work with SEARCH Ministries, continuing his lifelong passion for building relationships; and

Whereas, Mr. Plating built a life rooted in connection, leadership, and love. He had a gift for spotting talent in unexpected places and for seeing people exactly as they were. He was a force shaped by his dry sense of humor, big heart, and servant leadership; and

Whereas, he loved nothing more than spending time with family and friends, soaking up lake life, and mentoring others along their journeys; and

Whereas, together with his beloved wife of fifty years, Cindy, he reared three fine children: Jill Plating, Todd Plating, and Chris Plating. His children blessed him with the affection of five loving grandchildren: Caitlyn Peter, Emma Peter, Ashton Plating, Hattie Plating, and Wilder Plating; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Jack Plating and for the example of warmth, drive, love of fun, and fierce loyalty he set for all who knew him. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Jack David Plating of Greenville County and extend their deepest sympathy to his large and loving family and his many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jack David Plating.
