A concurrent RESOLUTION

To request the Department of Transportation name the intersection of United States Highway 29 at South Blackstock Road in the City of Spartanburg in Spartanburg County "Bobby E. Wilder Memorial Intersection" and place appropriate signs or markers at this location containing these words.

Whereas, born April 24, 1936, to Edgar and Helen Wilder in Spartanburg, Bobby E. Wilder lived a well-spent life dedicated to his country and community. He graduated from Fairforest High School in Spartanburg in 1954. While there, he was a member of the 1953 Spartanburg District 6 State baseball championship team. He served in the United States Army for four years, attained the rank of E4, was awarded a medal for good conduct, and honorably discharged August 20, 1960; and

Whereas, a passionate supporter of the fire service, Wilder was an EMT with the Westview Fairforest Fire Department Rescue 3 from 1966 to June 2002. He was appointed as fire commissioner to the Westview Fairforest Fire Department Commission Board in July 2002, a position he held until his death on June 25, 2025, at the venerable age of eight-nine; and

Whereas, Wilder was the beloved husband of Elizabeth "Libby" Wilder, his wife of thirty-five years. They were the parents of a daughter, Mary Wilder, and a son, Jeremy Wilder. The family grew to include grandchildren Lizzi Strickland, Grace Monaghan, Jayla Sargent, Riley Fordham, and Hailey Strickland; and

Whereas, Wilder's passions were helping others, westerns, and NASCAR. He will be remembered for his gentle heart, loving spirit, generous nature, and sense of humor; and

Whereas, it is only fitting and proper that Bobby E. Wilder, a proud native of the Palmetto State who dedicated his life to making the world a better place, be honored with an intersection in the City of Spartanburg named in his memory. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, request the Department of Transportation name the intersection of United States Highway 29 at South Blackstock Road in the City of Spartanburg in Spartanburg County "Bobby E. Wilder Memorial Intersection" and place appropriate signs or markers at this location containing these words.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
