A house RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE Malinda Craig OF faIRFIELD COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MANY YEARS OF CONTINUED HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that Malinda Craig of Fairfield County celebrated her one hundredth birthday on August 11, 2025; and
Whereas, born on August 11, 1925, in the first quarter of the twentieth century, she has witnessed the many remarkable social changes, technological advancements, and international developments that have spanned the globe from that time into the first quarter of the twenty-first century; and
Whereas, the daughter of the late Eliza J. Cammon Boulware, Malinda was the eldest of four siblings: Nancy Graham, Martha Canty, and the late John Melvin Boulware. She attended the public schools in Blackstock and Rossville, and at an early age, she joined Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Woodward and later became a member of Gladden Grove Methodist Church in Mitford; and
Whereas, together with her beloved husband, the late James B. Craig, she reared ten fine children. She has been blessed to see the continuation of her loving family legacy in twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and one special great-grandchild that is reared in her home; and
Whereas, Mrs. Craig worked for several years at Chester County Hospital when she was young. Then she worked for Mr. James and Earlene Bankhead. As her family grew, she acquired additional work with JP Shenson in Great Falls where she worked for twenty years until they closed. She then relocated to Washington, DC, and worked for Dr. Grant and family for ten years and then returned home to Blackstock and began working for Mr. Bridges in Charlotte, North Carolina; and
Whereas, after her retirement, Mrs. Craig spent time enjoying her family, her church family, and her friends. With a passion for cooking, she always made sure to cook enough for everyone, and she made sure everyone got a plate when they visited. She enjoys going to Myrtle Beach yearly to celebrate her birthday with her family and friends; and
Whereas, without a license or formal training, Mrs. Craig taught a sort of mathematics through her example, not in a school classroom but in her community, when she added the values of love and hard work to her life; subtracted a can't-do attitude from her mind; multiplied these concepts in her home, church, and community; and divided them among her children; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to honor this daughter of South Carolina at the celebration of her one hundredth birthday and to join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Malinda Craig of Fairfield County on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and many years of continued health and happiness.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Malinda Craig.
