A house RESOLUTION
TO HONOR AND REMEMBER THE LIFE, SERVICE, AND SACRIFICE OF ALLEN MOORE HAWKES JR. OF AIKEN COUNTY UPON HIS PASSING, AND TO RECOGNIZE HIS HEROIC MILITARY SERVICE TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND HIS DEVOTION TO FAITH, FAMILY, AND COMMUNITY.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives learned with deep sorrow of the passing of Allen Moore Hawkes Jr., age seventy-eight, of Aiken County, who entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family; and
Whereas, born in Newport News, Virginia, Mr. Hawkes was the son of the late Allen Moore Hawkes Sr. and Isabell Cecil Hawkes, and throughout his life exemplified integrity, humility, and unwavering devotion to God, country, and family; and
Whereas, Mr. Hawkes proudly served his nation in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Sergeant, and distinguished himself through extraordinary courage and valor in combat; and
Whereas, in recognition of his heroic actions in battle, Sergeant Hawkes was awarded two Bronze Stars for Heroism, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, and numerous additional medals and commendations-honors reserved for those who place duty and the lives of others above their own; and
Whereas, following his combat service in Vietnam, Sergeant Hawkes continued his commitment to the United States Army as a Drill Sergeant at Fort Jackson, where he helped train and shape the next generation of American soldiers, instilling discipline, resilience, and respect for service; and
Whereas, after returning to civilian life, Mr. Hawkes built a successful professional career as a computer programmer and later as a bank manager, demonstrating the same dedication and excellence that marked his military service; and
Whereas, a man of deep Christian faith, Mr. Hawkes was a devoted member and deacon of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Aiken and previously served faithfully at Troutville Baptist Church in Virginia, where he mentored young men through the Royal Ambassadors program, teaching children about Jesus and leading by example; and
Whereas, Mr. Hawkes was a loving husband to his wife of fifty-five years, Jackie Bridgmon Hawkes, a devoted father, a proud grandfather, and a man who cherished time with his family, especially vacations to Myrtle Beach and time spent on the golf course; and
Whereas, his life leaves an enduring legacy of bravery, faith, service, and love, and his example will continue to inspire his family, friends, fellow veterans, and all who were privileged to know him. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor and remember the life, service, and sacrifice of Allen Moore Hawkes Jr. of Aiken County upon his passing, and to recognize his heroic military service to the United States of America and his devotion to faith, family, and community.
