Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are immensely proud to recognize those individuals who have dedicated their lives to the defense of our nation and the continued welfare of our veteran community; and
Whereas, a twenty-year veteran of the United States Army, First Sergeant (Ret.) Alvin King has demonstrated unparalleled leadership, courage, and commitment throughout a distinguished military career spanning decades of selfless service; and
Whereas, upon his retirement from active duty, he did not cease his mission but instead transitioned his vast experience and passion toward advocating for the veterans of the Palmetto State, ensuring that those who served receive the honor, care, and resources they earned; and
Whereas, First Sergeant King is the founder of the nonprofit Range Fore Hope Foundation, which focuses on facilitating outdoor activities as a positive outlet for active-duty service members, combat and disabled veterans, and their dependents. The foundation's goal is to assist with overcoming the challenges associated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other difficulties faced by veterans and their families; and
Whereas, his tireless efforts in veteran outreach, mentorship, and community engagement have made a profound impact on the lives of countless service members and their families across South Carolina; and
Whereas, in recognition of his outstanding contributions and his embodiment of the highest ideals of the "Soldier for Life" philosophy, the South Carolina Department of Veterans' Affairs has selected him as the inaugural South Carolina Veteran of the Year for the 2023-2024 nomination cycle; and
Whereas, it is fitting and proper that the House of Representatives pause in its deliberations to acknowledge the lifetime of sacrifice and the continued civic excellence of this "Old Soldier," Alvin King, who continues to lead the way. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor and recognize First Sergeant (Ret.)
