VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
A concurrent RESOLUTION
To request the Department of Transportation name the portion of Squire Road in the City of Rock Hill in York County from its intersection with Ogden Road to its intersection with Falls Road "Archbishop B.R. Wilson memorial Road" and erect appropriate markers or signs at this location containing these words.
Whereas, Archbishop B.R. Wilson, a humble yet mighty man of valor, completed his earthly labors on July 15, 2025, at the venerable age of sixty-eight. Born on November 12, 1956, in Rock Hill, he dedicated his life to the service of God's kingdom, faithfully ministering to others with compassion, wisdom, and strength; and
Whereas, he was the devoted husband of Phyllis Thomasson, and together they shared a beautiful life filled with faith and family. In God's time, they were blessed with four children, Mario, Isaac, Taurice, and Sharita, and eight grandchildren, who were the joy of his heart; and
Whereas, in preparation for his life's work, Archbishop Wilson earned his diploma from Rock Hill High School, followed by a bachelor's degree in social science from Claflin University, a bachelor's degree in religious education from Mid-Atlantic Bible College, and a master's degree in Christian psychology from Cornerstone University. Further theological studies ensued at Erskine Theological Seminary, Reformed Theological Seminary, and Winthrop University. At the time of his passing, he was pursuing a doctorate in theological studies through programs held at Harvard and Yale universities; and
Whereas, over the course of his ministerial journey, he served the Lord's people in various ways. He preached his initial sermon at Nazareth Baptist Church in Rock Hill in 1985, served as pastor of Boyd Hill Baptist Church in Rock Hill from 1986 to 1998, founded Gethsemane Church in Rock Hill in 1998, and established Churches United Fellowship Inc. in 2004; and
Whereas, further, Archbishop Wilson extended his ministry beyond the pulpit. He served faithfully as a counselor with the Department of Mental Health, chaplain for the Rock Hill Police Department, hospice counselor and chaplain for Agape Care of Rock Hill, and grief counselor for Parker's Funeral Home; and
Whereas, for more than two and a half decades, Archbishop Wilson led God's people with bold faith, integrity, and unconditional love. He preached salvation, deliverance, and healing and stood by families in times of joy and sorrow. He dedicated babies, united couples in marriage, laid loved ones to rest, and ushered new ministers into their calling with grace and spiritual authority; and
Whereas, Archbishop Wilson's legacy is one of tireless service, spiritual leadership, and unwavering commitment to the advancement of God's kingdom. His mission was always clear: to build up others, both ministers and ministries, and to nurture the body of Christ. He now rests in eternal peace, having fought the good fight, finished his course, and kept the faith; and
Whereas, it would be fitting and proper to honor the legacy of this great man of God by having a road in the City of Rock Hill dedicated in his memory. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, request the Department of Transportation name the portion of Squire Road in the City of Rock Hill in York County from its intersection with Ogden Road to its intersection with Falls Road "Archbishop B.R. Wilson Road" and erect appropriate markers or signs at this location containing these words.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
