VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
A house RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND SUPPORT "INTRODUCE A GIRL TO ENGINEERING DAY"; TO ENCOURAGE THE PARTICIPATION OF STUDENTS, EDUCATORS, ENGINEERS, FAMILIES, AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS ACROSS THE STATE; AND TO DECLARE TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2026, AS "INTRODUCE A GIRL TO ENGINEERING DAY" IN SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives recognize the importance of inspiring the next generation of problem-solvers, innovators, and leaders who will design, build, and sustain the future of the Palmetto State; and
Whereas, engineering plays a vital role in advancing South Carolina's economy, infrastructure, public safety, environmental stewardship, and overall quality of life and is a rewarding career path for girls and women alike; and
Whereas, women and girls remain underrepresented in many engineering and STEM-related fields, but early exposure to engineering concepts and role models can significantly increase their awareness, confidence, and interest in pursuing a career in engineering; and
Whereas, "Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day" is part of a national movement that provides opportunities for K-8 students to explore the fascinating world of engineering through hands-on activities, mentorship, and engagement with professional engineers and technical experts; and
Whereas, by highlighting how engineers shape our communities, improve lives, and transform ideas into reality, "Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day" helps students of all backgrounds envision themselves as future engineers and leaders in South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and support "Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day"; encourage the participation of students, educators, engineers, families, and community partners across the State; and declare Tuesday, February 24, 2026, as "Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day" in South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the American Council of Engineering Companies of South Carolina and the South Carolina Society of Professional Engineers.
