to recognize and honor John Lakin for his outstading contributions to gospel music and to the people of the state of south carolina.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives take great pleasure in recognizing John Lakin for more than twenty years of faithful service and meaningful contributions to the gospel music industry; and
Whereas, John Lakin was born in the small town of Hopkins, into a family deeply rooted in music and ministry. He is the son of the late Bishop John Lakin Jr., an organist and pastor, and Pastor Dr. Sallie Lakin, a gifted vocalist who serves at Glory Temple Worship Center in Hopkins and Unity Evangelistic Church in Eastover; and
Whereas, having been immersed in music and ministry throughout his life, John Lakin has remained devoted to sharing his musical gifts with others. With humility, he describes himself as a country boy doing what he loves, grateful that his music is embraced by audiences and that God has blessed him with a style that ministers worship, encouragement, and healing to many; and
Whereas, in an ever-evolving music industry, authenticity and sincerity remain enduring virtues. Through these qualities, John Lakin, leader of John Lakin & Band of Worshippers, has earned recognition as a prolific songwriter, praise and worship leader, and psalmist. He has further expanded his ministry by serving as the television host of John Lakin and Friends; and
Whereas, for over two decades, John Lakin has made significant contributions to gospel music. His compositions have been recorded by nationally recognized gospel artists, including Ricky Dillard, Keith "Wonderboy" Johnson, and Bruce Parham, among others. His song "God is Great" reached the Top 10 on the Billboard Gospel Charts; and
Whereas, his song "Created to Worship," the title track of his sophomore album, has been embraced by churches and gospel music enthusiasts as a powerful worship anthem. His remarkable ability to express the shared experience of true worship through song enables his music to resonate with believers of diverse backgrounds and generations. Through his work, he inspires young people to develop their gifts, serve the Lord, and positively impact others; and
Whereas, John Lakin has released two full-length albums, Expression of Worship…Live (2005) and Created to Worship (2011), for which he received writing and production credits. In addition, his powerful declaration "The Promise" (2016) has uplifted many, particularly during challenging times that affect countless lives. His enduring testimony remains, "Big Mighty God Did It Again"; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives deeply appreciate the dedication, faithfulness, and excellence John Lakin has demonstrated in his service to gospel music and the citizens of this State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
