A house RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF MADHUSUDAN SANKARDAYAL SHRIVASTAVA OF RICHLAND COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS LOVING FAMILY AND HIS MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Madhusudan Sankardayal Shrivastava, a pioneering small business owner and foundational leader of the Indian American community in Columbia, at the age of eighty on May 27, 2025; and
Whereas, born in India, Mr. Shrivastava immigrated to the United States in 1970 with limited resources, and through determination and vision, he built a successful business enterprise that grew to include numerous convenience stores, restaurants, and a petroleum distribution operation employing hundreds; and
Whereas, serving as a mentor to many immigrants who followed in his path to entrepreneurship, Mr. Shrivastava was widely respected for his leadership, integrity, and commitment to helping others; and
Whereas, he was a founding member of the Columbia Hindu Temple and Cultural Society, where he faithfully served for decades, helping establish it as a central institution for the Hindu community across the Midlands; and
Whereas, Mr. Shrivastava's contributions were recognized through honors that included the University of South Carolina School of Business Alumni Award and the Columbia Chamber of Commerce Small Businessman of the Year; and
Whereas, a devoted husband, father, and community leader, he was known for his compassion, generosity, and unwavering support of family and friends. His legacy is reflected not only in his professional accomplishments, but also in the countless lives he influenced through mentorship, service, and leadership, leaving a lasting impact on the State of South Carolina and beyond. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Madhusudan Sankardayal Shrivastava of Richland County and extend their deepest sympathy to his loving family and his many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Madhusudan Sankardayal Shrivastava.
