A house RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE FORT MILL HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR A REMARKABLE SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2025 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAAAA DIVISION 2 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Fort Mill girls cross country team of York County captured another state title at the state meet held on Saturday, November 15, 2025; and

Whereas, to the thrill of their faithful fans, the Fort Mill Lady Yellow Jackets defeated a fine field of rivals with a commanding score of 38 points, outpacing the team's nearest rival, second-placed Greenville, by 36 points; and

Whereas, the Fort Mill High School cross country program cemented its status as a distance powerhouse, with the girls team capturing their third consecutive title showcasing the deep talent and consistent excellence within the program; and

Whereas, the triple crown Fort Mill team relied on powerful pack running: their top five scorers finished within the top sixteen overall. Senior Marlee Cook led the charge, finishing second overall with an impressive time of 19:07.78. Freshman Lauren Allen followed closely in fourth place at 19:13.16, and Senior Alivia Cleveland rounded out the early finishers, coming in sixth with a time of 19:17.10; and

Whereas, in a sport that demands strength, mental endurance, and speed, Head Coach Lee Whitaker, named the 2025 Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year by the South Carolina Track and Cross Country Coaches Association, and his dedicated coaching staff capitalized on their own athletic experience and passion to hone yet another championship team and teach these athletes life principles that will endure beyond the track; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives values the pride and recognition that the Fort Mill girls cross country runners have brought to their school and their community, and the members look forward to hearing of their continued accomplishments in the days to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Fort Mill High School girls cross country team, coaches, and school officials for a remarkable season and congratulate them for winning the 2025 South Carolina Class AAAAA Division 2 State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Zachary Beam and Coach Lee Whitaker.
