A house RESOLUTION

TO SALUTE TREY WALKER, FORMER CHIEF OF STAFF FOR GOVERNOR HENRY MCMASTER, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RECENT DEPARTURE FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE, TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON HIS MANY YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND FULFILLMENT AS HE TAKES UP NEW CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN THE DAYS AHEAD.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina House of Representatives honors those individuals who have given tirelessly of themselves in service to the great State of South Carolina. Trey Walker, former chief of staff for Governor Henry McMaster, stands among their number as an exceptional public servant; and

Whereas, after graduating with a bachelor's degree in government and international studies from the University of South Carolina in 1989, Trey Walker began working in politics as deputy campaign manager for Henry McMaster in his 1990 run for lieutenant governor. Trey subsequently held a number of positions in South Carolina politics, including time as an aide for U.S. Representatives Arthur Ravenel Jr. and Thomas Hartnett. Trey also spent time at the South Carolina Policy Council, directing an advocacy campaign focused on education; and

Whereas, from 1993 to 1999, he served as executive director of the Republican Party of South Carolina, with Henry McMaster as the party's chair. When Governor McMaster was the attorney general of South Carolina, Trey Walker again served as his top advisor, from 2003 to 2010. Mr. Walker also managed Henry McMaster's primary campaign for governor in 2010; and

Whereas, during his time in the attorney general's office, Trey Walker directed John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign in South Carolina. During the general election, he was appointed director of mid-Atlantic state campaigns; and

Whereas, Trey Walker was appointed as a senior advisor to Nikki Haley after her election as Governor in 2010. He left the Haley administration in 2011 to work as head lobbyist for the University of South Carolina, a position that was created for him. He kept this position until 2014, when he took up his duties as a lobbyist for BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, where he worked on healthcare and insurance issues with the state legislature; and

Whereas, in January 2017, after Nikki Haley resigned as governor to become ambassador to the United Nations, Henry McMaster became governor and appointed Trey Walker as his chief of staff, a post in which he served for nine years until his official resignation on March 6, 2026; and

Whereas, grateful for the consistent commitment and outstanding leadership Trey Walker has bestowed on this great State, the House of Representatives takes much pleasure in wishing him well as he enters a new chapter in his career. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, salute Trey Walker, former chief of staff for Governor Henry McMaster, on the occasion of his recent departure from the Governor's Office, congratulate him on his many years of distinguished service to the State of South Carolina, and wish him continued success and fulfillment as he takes up new challenges and opportunities in the days ahead.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Trey Walker.
