A house RESOLUTION

TO CELEBRATE THE JOYOUS OCCASION OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church AND TO CONGRATULATE AND HONOR Reverend Andrew J. Jordan AND THE CONGREGATION FOR THEIR YEARS OF faithful SERVICE TO THE Creston COMMUNITY.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church of Creston will celebrate its one hundred fiftieth anniversary on August 16, 2026, with special speaker, Reverend Dr. Caesar R. Richburg; and

Whereas, the theme for this significant event is Honoring Our Heritage, Celebrating Our Present, Inspiring Our Future and will surely captivate the congregation to carry on its momentous history; and

Whereas, St. Paul AME Church was established in 1876 in the Orangeburg District of the Central Conference under Bishop W. D. Chappelle. The church sanctuary was built on the property that was deeded to St. Paul by Mr. A. L. Keller; and

Whereas, by 1919, St. Paul was rebuilt, but years later, the church building was in desperate need of a roof on the church, so a mortgage was made to repair the roof. When the mortgage holder was prepared to foreclose on the mortgage, the officers and members decided to buy plates for grave sites to raise money to pay the mortgage; and

Whereas, in 1971, St. Paul was rebuilt, and from 1983 to 1985, an educational building was raised. In 1997, the building was organized, and the church was remodeled and dedicated on October 3, 1999. children's church was started and the Willing Workers Club, the Inspirational Choir, and the Jubilee Choir were initiated; and

Whereas,  the House of Representatives commends St. Paul AME Church in Creston for one and a half centuries of ministry and service to the community, and the members extend warmest congratulations on the occasion of the church's historic anniversary. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, celebrate the joyous occasion of the one hundred fiftieth anniversary of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church and congratulate and honor Reverend Andrew J. Jordan and the congregation for their years of faithful service to the Creston community.
