VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
A house RESOLUTION
To honor and recognize Dr. Louisa Madiako Mojela, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, and Co-Founder of Women Investment Portfolio Holdings.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to commend Dr. Louisa Madiako Mojela, a trailblazer who redefined the role of women in the African financial sector; and
Whereas, in 1994, Dr. Mojela co-founded Women Investment Portfolio Holdings (WIPHOLD), becoming the first women-led investment firm to list on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. Her career, which includes key roles at the World Bank and the Development Bank of Southern Africa, has been a lifelong crusade to dismantle systemic barriers to capital ownership for women; and
Whereas, her impact is best realized through the Mophuthi Matsoso Development Trust in Lesotho, which she established in 2010. This initiative has transformed the lives of rural communities by providing essential agricultural equipment, seeds, and educational infrastructure. By linking corporate profits to community transformation, she has operationalized a sustainable model for social upliftment that is now widely emulated; and
Whereas, Dr. Mojela's career is decorated with numerous honors, including the Forbes Africa Lifetime Achievement Award. She remains a powerful voice in boardroom governance, serving as a director for several major institutions. Her legacy is one of opening doors; she has paved the way for thousands of women to enter the mainstream economy, ensuring that South Africa's growth is truly inclusive and representative; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates Dr. Louisa Madiako Mojela's distinguished work towards enhancing the role of women in the African financial sector as the chairman, chief executive officer, and co-founder of Women Investment Portfolio Holdings. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor and recognize Dr. Louisa Madiako Mojela, chairman, chief executive officer, and co-founder of Women Investment Portfolio Holdings.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Louisa Madiako Mojela.
