A house RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF KATHERINE LILES, A NATIVE OF MONCKS CORNER, TO CELEBRATE HER LIFE, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives was deeply saddened to learn of the recent passing of Moncks Corner native Katherine Liles, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and caregiver whose life was a testament to love, strength, service, and devotion to family; and
Whereas, born on September 16, 1943, in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, Katherine Liles attended the Marlboro County public schools and furthered her education at the College of Human Services in New York City, later dedicating her professional life to caring for others as a certified nursing assistant in private home healthcare; and
Whereas, Mrs. Liles possessed a generous spirit and a deep commitment to serving her community, giving freely of her time and resources through bicycle giveaways, Thanksgiving dinners, meals for those experiencing homelessness, and other acts of kindness that brought comfort, joy, and support to those in need; and
Whereas, she further strengthened her community by founding Distinctions of Elegance, an etiquette program that encouraged poise, confidence, dignity, and personal development among young girls, and by establishing the Red Hatters in Marlboro County and with it opportunities for fellowship, friendship, and connection among women; and
Whereas, throughout her life, Mrs. Liles demonstrated an unwavering commitment to her family, providing generations with wisdom, encouragement, guidance, and unconditional love and creating a legacy that will continue through her family and all whose lives she touched; and
Whereas, she was known for her strength, compassion, warmth, and devotion to those she loved, qualities that endeared her to family, friends, neighbors, and other members of her community; and
Whereas, beyond the milestones and accomplishments of her life, Katherine Liles will be remembered most profoundly for the way she made others feel through the love she gave freely, the traditions she created, the lessons she shared, and the strength and character she instilled in those who follow her; and
Whereas, although her passing brings great sorrow to those who knew and loved her, the influence of her life cannot be measured solely in years but in the generations she shaped, the memories she created, the lives she enriched, and the legacy that continues because she lived. She will be greatly missed. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express profound sorrow upon the passing of Katherine Liles, a native of Moncks Corner, celebrate her life, and extend the deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family.
