A senate RESOLUTION

 

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR jana curry for her service as a music teacher and her efforts to honor her country through music.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Jana Curry for her outstanding contributions as a music teacher and as the director of Honor Choir; and

 

Whereas, Mrs. Curry earned her Bachelor of Music and Music Education from Georgia State University, her national board certification in early/middle childhood music from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, and her Master of Education from Southern Wesleyan University; and

 

Whereas, Mrs. Curry's professional goal is to inspire students to become proud citizens by connecting music with patriotic education and modeling duty, honor, and country; and

 

Whereas, Mrs. Curry has been a general music teacher and the honor choir director at Boiling Springs Elementary since August 2000. She was the District Two Honor Chorus Director for Spartanburg District Two Schools from 2015 until 2018, and she has been the Lead Elementary Music Teacher for Spartanburg District Two Schools since August 2022; and

 

Whereas, in addition to her teaching responsibilities, Mrs. Curry is the director of the Boiling Springs Elementary School South Carolina History Program, an annual tradition that combines South Carolina history with dynamic and educational musical elements. She is also the organizer of the school's renowned Veterans Day program; and

 

Whereas, over the years, Mrs. Curry has received a number of honors and awards, including the Spartanburg County Veteran's Affairs Challenge Coin, a Presidential Citation from President Donald Trump, the Boiling Springs Elementary Teacher of the Year Award, a Representative Citation from South Carolina State Representative Steven Long, the American Legion Certificate for Patriotic Service, the American Legion Certificate of Appreciation, the Papa John's Teacher Appreciation Award, the Horace Mann Crystal Apple Award, and more; and

 

Whereas, a highlight in her personal music career, Mrs. Curry sang as a backup vocalist in the Super Bowl XXXIV Halftime Show; and

 

Whereas, Mrs. Curry is praised by her colleagues for her character, compassion, and integrity, as well as her investment in and love for her students; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the dedication and commitment that Mrs. Curry has shown in serving the people and the State of South Carolina.  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate:

 

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Jana Curry for her service as a music teacher and her efforts to honor her country through music.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Jana Curry.
