A senate RESOLUTION

 

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR Christopher R. Koon for his distinguished service to the legal profession and to the people and the State of South Carolina.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Christopher R. Koon for his service to the legal profession and to the people and the State of South Carolina; and

 

Whereas, Mr. Koon is an alumnus of Clemson University, where he earned his bachelor of arts degree in political science, history, and English, and of the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he earned his juris doctor degree; and

 

Whereas, Mr. Koon began his career as an attorney at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, L.L.P., and then served as a law clerk to the Honorable Judge Matthew J. Perry Jr., Senior United States District Judge; and

 

Whereas, Mr. Koon currently serves as senior vice president and general counsel of The Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina, Inc., which is a statewide organization representing electric cooperatives that provides power to more than seventy percent of the State's population, covering all forty-six counties; and

 

Whereas, a civic leader, Mr. Koon has served with many community organizations, including serving as president of the South Carolina Bar Association and chair of the South Carolina Lawyers Helping Lawyers Commission, vice-chair of the Board of Directors of the National Electric Cooperative Bar Association, president of the South Carolina Bar Foundation, chair of the House of Delegates of the South Carolina Bar Association, and chair of the Board of Directors of Appleseed Legal Justice Center; and

 

Whereas, in addition to these organizations, Mr. Koon contributes his local community through service on various boards, including serving on the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Richland County Public Library, serving on the Board of Directors for City Year Columbia, and serving as the president of the Gregg Park Homeowner's Association; and

 

Whereas, over the years, Mr. Koon has received a number of honors and awards, including the University of South Carolina School of Law Alumni Association's "Compleat Lawyer" award and the 2017 South Carolina Lawyers Weekly "Leadership in the Law" award. He was also selected as a member of The State newspaper's 2009 "20 Under 40" class of young professionals; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the dedication and commitment that Mr. Koon has shown in serving the people and the State of South Carolina.  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate:

 

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Christopher R. Koon for his service to the legal profession and to the people and the State of South Carolin.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Christopher R. Koon.
