A senate RESOLUTION

 

TO CONGRATULATE Emily Cummings Cope UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT, TO COMMEND HER FOR her twenty-six YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE, AND TO WISH HER MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN THE YEARS AHEAD.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Emily Cummings Cope upon the occasion of her retirement from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR); and

 

Whereas, Emily is an alumna of Clemson University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Aquaculture, Fisheries and Wildlife Biology, as well as her Master of Science degree; and

 

Whereas, Emily began her professional career in 1999 as an employee with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources working as the Forest Stewardship Program Supervisor. She served as SCDNR's Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Deputy Director from November 2011 until May 2025, where she led all aspects of the operation, management, and policy coordination for the Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division; and

 

Whereas, a civic leader, Emily has served on several boards, commissions, and councils, including the Recreational Boating and Fishing Alliance from 2024 to the present and the National Conservation Leadership Institute from 2023 to the present. She also served as president of the South Carolina Chapter of The Wildlife Society from 2007 until 2009; and

 

Whereas, over the years, Emily has received a number of honors and awards, including the 2010 United States Forest Service Excellence Award and the United States Forest Service "Wings Across the Americas" Habitat Conservation Award for outstanding contributions to and exceptional leadership toward conservation; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the passion and dedication that Emily has shown in serving the people and the State of South Carolina.  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate:

 

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Emily Cummings Cope upon the occasion of her retirement, commend her for her twenty-six years of dedicated service, and wish her much happiness and fulfillment in the years ahead.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Emily Cummings Cope.
