A senate RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE DOGWOOD GARDEN CLUB OF HONEA PATH UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS EIGHTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY AND TO EXPRESS DEEP APPRECIATION FOR THE CLUB'S PRESERVATION OF THE TOWN'S HORTICULTURAL LEGACY AND FOR THE CONTRIBUTION OF ITS MEMBERS OVER THE YEARS TO HONEA PATH'S NATURAL BEAUTY.

Whereas, organized on September 27, 1940, at the Honea Path Vocational Building, the fledgling Dogwood Garden Club held its first meeting presided over by the Lions' auxiliary president, Mrs. Joe N. Pinson. She was assisted by a committee composed of Mrs. E.R. Donnald, Mrs. Garrison Cox, and Mrs. J.W. Haynie, who had made interesting plans for the gathering. Founding officers were Mrs. M.B. Wright, president; Mrs. J.R. Donnald Jr., vice president; Mrs. J.W. Haynie, secretary; Mrs. W.E. Dunn, treasurer; and Miss Hazel Shirley, corresponding secretary; and

Whereas, in reflecting on its many achievements, the club, an affiliate of the Garden Club of South Carolina Inc. considers the creation of Dogwood Park in Honea Path as one of its most outstanding projects. The plan was initiated under the leadership of Lucille Shirley (president, 1963), and the completed park was dedicated on May 29, 1963; and

Whereas, now led by Judy Young, the group's current president, the Dogwood Garden Club enjoys a roster of nineteen members, some with more than twenty years of service to the organization. The club will mark its eighty-fifth anniversary with a special celebration on January 20, 2026; and

Whereas, the mission of the Dogwood Garden Club is the same today as it was eighty-five years ago: to provide educational experiences for all club members and community citizens so as to develop a love for all forms of gardening while creating interest in civic beautification; and

Whereas, the club's worthy objectives are to encourage civic beauty and civic pride; protect and conserve the area's natural resources; support the improvement of local parks; encourage children, youth, and seniors to love gardening; and to learn more about gardening, landscaping, horticulture, floral design, and wildlife; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate values the Dogwood Garden Club of Honea Path as a legacy club blessed with a distinguished heritage and with members who are stewards of cherished traditions held in trust for future gardeners. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate the Dogwood Garden Club of Honea Path upon the occasion of its eighty-fifth anniversary and express deep appreciation for the club's preservation of the town's horticultural legacy and for the contribution of its members over the years to Honea Path's natural beauty.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Dogwood Garden Club of Honea Path.
