A senate RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE PAMELA J. BROUGHTON OF GREENVILLE COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AND TO HONOR HER FOR HER FORTY-ONE YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AT Prisma Health's Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Center.
Whereas, after forty-one years as a senior medical social worker in Prisma Health's Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Department Center, Pamela J. Broughton, a Licensed Independent Social Worker-Clinical Practice, will embark on a well-deserved retirement on January 23, 2026; and
Whereas, Mrs. Broughton has extensive experience supporting children and families navigating serious and complex medical diagnoses. She specializes in pediatric hematology and oncology, providing psychosocial care to patients and caregivers throughout diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. In preparation for her life's work, she earned a bachelor's degree in sociology and education at Howard University in Washington, D.C., as well as a Master of Social Work at Atlanta University School of Social Work, with a concentration in administration; and
Whereas, at Prisma Health's Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Center Mrs. Broughton is an integral member of multidisciplinary care teams. In this role, she collaborates closely with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to address the emotional, social, and practical needs of pediatric patients and their families. Her work includes counseling, crisis intervention, care coordination, and connecting families to critical community and financial support resources. Deeply committed to family centered care, she is known for her compassion, advocacy, and steady presence for families facing some of life's most difficult moments; and
Whereas, Pamela J. Broughton's commitment extended beyond her primary role, strengthening interdisciplinary teams, advancing patient-centered care, and fostering a safe and supportive environment for countless children and their loved ones. Her duties also included problem solving, mediation, advocacy, community education and outreach, management of social work services, the school intervention program, Clement's Kindness grant requests, and community support programs; and
Whereas, since the inception of the Clement's Kindness Fund in 2002, Pamela J. Broughton has played a vital role in its success by serving as a liaison between the organization and the children's hospital, helping to ensure that children and families receive essential medical, psychological, social, emotional, and financial support. This support includes access to Camp Courage, a program founded in 1994 and located at Pleasant Ridge Camp & Retreat Center, which provides recreational and educational psychosocial support for children, adolescents, and young adults living with cancer or blood disorders by fostering peer connection, promoting normal development, and encouraging age-appropriate coping through shared experiences; and
Whereas, she has not gone unappreciated. Among other recognitions, a dedicated space at Camp Courage, Pam's Peaceful Places, was established in her honor to recognize her enduring impact and exemplary service. She was congratulated for this distinctive honor with a resolution from the South Carolina House of Representatives in 2019; and
Whereas, Pamela J. Broughton has been strengthened over the years of her service by the loving support of her family, and she and her husband, Curtis Broughton, are the proud parents of LaJoia, Marc, and Jillian and the cherished grandparents of Winter and Kinidi; and
Whereas, grateful for the legacy of consistent commitment and excellence Mrs. Broughton has bestowed on the people of South Carolina, the Senate takes great pleasure in wishing her much happiness and fulfillment as she enters retirement and trusts she will find much enjoyment in the more leisurely pace of the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Pamela J. Broughton of Greenville County on the occasion of her retirement and honor her for her forty-one years of dedicated service at Prisma Health's Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Center.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Pamela J. Broughton.
