A senate RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR the Service Corps of Retired Executives and their contributions to Small BUSINESSES in South Carolina.

Whereas, the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) is a national organization established in 1964 and run by the Small Business Administration. The organization pairs retired or experienced entrepreneurs with new or longtime business owners to provide advice, resources, and no-cost training; and

Whereas, those who want to become mentors are skilled in areas such as accounting, finance, human resources, consulting, import and export, law, operations, production, retail, wholesale manufacturing, sales, marketing, management, business plan preparation, and strategic planning, and they undergo a rigorous training process to make sure they are giving quality advice to new entrepreneurs; and

Whereas, Florence business leaders incorporated the Pee Dee area into the Grand Strand SCORE branch in 2021, bringing much needed mentorship and resources to businesses navigating the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic; and

Whereas, in addition to the Grand Strand / Pee Dee branch, SCORE has five other branch offices in South Carolina, including in the Greater Aiken, Piedmont, Midlands, Lowcountry, and Charleston areas, ensuring small business owners across the State have access to SCORE's mentorship, resources, and community committed to the shared success of small businesses; and

Whereas, small businesses create many jobs in the State, and SCORE provides an outlet through which these businesses can thrive and provide for their employees; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the dedication and commitment that SCORE has shown in serving the people and the State of South Carolina.  Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Service Corps of Retired Executives and their contributions to small businesses in South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Service Corps of Retired Executives branches of South Carolina.
