A senate RESOLUTION

 

TO CONGRATULATE THE Strom Thurmond High School football TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO HONOR THEM FOR WINNING THE SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS aa STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

 

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is proud to recognize the Strom Thurmond High School football team for winning the South Carolina Class AA state championship on December 6, 2026, at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium in Orangeburg; and

 

Whereas, this historic win marks the program's first state title in twenty years. With an exceptional season overall, the team secured a remarkable 13-2 season with this championship win; and

 

Whereas, in the championship game, the Strom Thurmond High School Rebels defeated the Hampton County Hurricanes by a score of 26-7. The game was filled with impressive feats by the Rebels. Running back Deonte Phillips scored an early touchdown, and quarterback Bri'Shaun Lee threw a fifty-five-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Kaleb Simpkins; and

 

Whereas, the winning team included Jaivaughn Bellamy, Kevin Bibbs, Carter Boatwright, Jamarian Broadwater, Bryston Coleman, Jalin Collins, Taylor Collins, Chris Craft, B. J. Creswell, Tyler Culpepper, Justus Daly, Wytravious Dugar, Hezekiah East, Jakari Gordon, Tyler Grant, Preston Holmes, Mason Johnson, Carson Just, J. J. Kyler, John Laster, Bri'Shaun Lee, Rashaad Mathis, Tranquillis Mathis, Xavier McAdoo, Amari McClenney, Exzavian McGrier, Bryson Mims, Bennie Mobley, Gregory Moore, Denada Morgan, Joseph Pack, Dakota Padgett, Garrett Pearson, Deonte Phillips, Kyree Polk, Aiden Romero, Zy Rouse Braylon Searles, Blaedon Shuster, Kaleb Simpkins, Grayson Smith, Grady Stone, Darian Underwood, Micah Warren, Jaden Weaver, Kaden Wigfall, Sha Williams, Kobe Windless, Daevian Wise, and Brison Yonce; and

 

Whereas, the Strom Thurmond High School football team has flourished under the leadership and guidance of Coach Andrew Webb; Assistant Coaches Riley Addis, Brandon Ahrens, Noah Bell, Zack Felton, Tony Hillary, Scott King, Champ Merriweather, Brett Newton, Olajuwon Paige, Tony Temple, and Forrest Winn; athletic trainer, Laura Weir; team doctor, Dr. Curtis Wright; and statistician, Chris Wofford; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the pride and recognition that the Strom Thurmond High School football team has brought to its school and community and look forward to a future filled with further accomplishments by the team and its talented athletes.  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate:

 

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the Strom Thurmond High School football team, coaches, and school officials on an outstanding season and honor them for winning the South Carolina Class AA state championship.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Strom Thurmond High School football team, Coach Andrew Webb, and Principal Kristin Risher.
