A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE COACHES AND MEMBERS OF THE WARDLAW ACADEMY LADY PATRIOTS BASKETBALL TEAM OF EDGEFIELD COUNTY ON WINNING THEIR PreviousTHIRDNext CONSECUTIVE SCISAA CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly note with pride the extraordinary achievement of the Wardlaw Academy Lady Patriots Basketball Team in winning the 1999 SCISAA Class AA Basketball Championship by defeating previously undefeated Avalon Academy 43-27; and

Whereas, this championship is the Lady Patriots' PreviousthirdNext consecutive state championship; and

Whereas, the young women representing Wardlaw Academy in this achievement, JoAnne Rice, Tracy Williams, Ashley Murrell, Nance Derrick, Angela Marranci, Tanya Fulford, Joy White, Rachael Kroes, and Elizabeth Boone, are exemplars of the best in student athletics in high school competition; and

Whereas, the Lady Patriots ended the 1998-1999 season with a perfect 34-0 record and have compiled a record of 91-1 over the past three seasons; and

Whereas, Head Coach, Dennis Gibson, was named SCISAA Class AA Coach of the Year while Nance Derrick was honored as Class AA Player of the Year; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to recognize the extraordinary achievements of the Wardlaw Academy Lady Patriots Basketball Team. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, express their congratulations to the Wardlaw Academy Lady Patriots Basketball Team and coaches of Edgefield County on winning their Previousthird consecutive SCISAA Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Wardlaw Academy Principal, Ben Couch, and Head Coach, Dennis Gibson.
