A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE JACKIE MOORE MCNEILL OF WEST COLUMBIA, LEXINGTON COUNTY, ON BEING CHOSEN THE "2001 MS. SENIOR SWEETHEART OF AMERICA" IN A NATIONAL COMPETITION HELD IN FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS, IN NOVEMBER 2000.

Whereas, on November 5, 2000, Jackie Moore McNeill of West Columbia represented the State of South Carolina and competed against thirty contestants, ranging in age from fifty-nine to eighty-four, from twenty-three states and the Virgin Islands in the Ms. Senior Sweetheart of America pageant which was held in Fall River, Massachusetts; and

Whereas, Mrs. McNeill impressed the judges with her singing talent, her grace and ease at answering questions from the judges' panel, and her poise. She was crowned Ms. Senior Sweetheart of America for 2001; and

Whereas, Jackie McNeill retired from Lexington School District Two in 1994 where she taught choral music and served as a consultant for fine arts. She is currently employed part time as an adjunct professor at the UniversityNext of South Carolina, supervising student teachers; and

Whereas, retirement finds Mrs. McNeill very busy and involved. She is the editor of the South Carolina Musician, the publication of the S. C. Music Educators Association; she is president of the S. C. Chapter of Partners of the Americas, vice-president of Friends of the USC School of Music, and a board member of the S.C. Arts Alliance; and

Whereas, she has performed with the S. C. Opera, the Columbia Lyric Theater; she is a soloist with the Columbia Choral Society, a soloist and choir director at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Columbia, and the director of music and charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church in West Columbia; and

Whereas, Mrs. McNeill was named Ms. South Carolina Senior in 1999 and Ms. Central Midlands Senior in 1998; and

Whereas, she has three children, three stepchildren, and fifteen grandchildren. She is married to Dr. Charles McNeill, Professor Emeritus, PreviousUniversity of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Jackie McNeill brings honor to our State and her community. She truly deserves our praise and admiration. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly congratulate Jackie Moore McNeill of West Columbia, Lexington County, on being chosen the "2001 Ms. Senior Sweetheart of America" in a national competition held in Fall River, Massachusetts, in November 2001.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. McNeill.
