To whom was referred a Bill (H. 3453), to amend the Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, by adding Section 30-5-11 so as to provide that if a vacancy occurs in the Office of Register of Mesne Conveyances, etc., respectfully

That they have duly and carefully considered the same, and recommend that the same do pass:

Amend the bill, as and if amended, page 1, beginning on line 31, in Section 30-5-11, as contained in SECTION 1, by striking /majority of the members of the General Assembly representing that county/ and inserting /majority of the members of the Senatorial delegation and a majority of the members of the House delegation representing that county/ .

Amend title to conform.

A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 30-5-11 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT IF A VACANCY OCCURS IN THE OFFICE OF REGISTER OF MESNE CONVEYANCES IN A COUNTY WHICH ELECTS ITS REGISTER OF MESNE CONVEYANCES IT MUST BE FILLED FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE UNEXPIRED TERM BY APPOINTMENT OF THE GOVERNOR UPON THE RECOMMENDATION OF A MAJORITY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY REPRESENTING THAT COUNTY.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 30-5-11. If a vacancy occurs in the office of register of mesne conveyances in a county which elects its register of mesne conveyances, it must be filled for the remainder of the unexpired term by appointment of the Governor upon the recommendation of a majority of the members of the General Assembly representing that county."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
