South Carolina General Assembly

The Senate assembled at 12:00 Noon, the hour to which it stood adjourned and was called to order by the PRESIDENT.

A quorum being present the proceedings were opened with a devotion by the Chaplain as follows:

Beloved, hear words from the Book of Judges, Chapter 3 (v.12):

"Once again the Israelites did evil in the eyes

of the Lord, and because they did this evil the

Lord gave Eglon, king of Moab, power over Israel."
Let us pray.

Eternal Father, Holy beyond our most remote comprehension, loving beyond all earthly-experienced love, good beyond all that we can conceive as good, help us to learn from history lest we repeat history's errors.

As we share the shock of the world at the senseless bombing at the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan, spare us, O Lord, as a nation, from being cruel because others are cruel... from being hateful because others are full of hate.

Help us to see in the life of the Great Galilean a pattern... and a spirit for our lives.

Give us stout hearts, dear Lord, that having resolved upon the course we believe to be right, we may steadfastly pursue it faithfully... in the Name of all that is Holy.

Amen.

The PRESIDENT called for Petitions, Memorials, Presentments of Grand Juries and such like papers.
