A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXTENDING THE CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES TO MRS. SYLVIA A. LONEY UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT ON JUNE 30, 1995, FROM THE HIGH HILLS RURAL WATER COMPANY, INC.

Whereas, Mrs. Sylvia A. Loney, the daughter of Thomas and Hallie Atkinson, was born and reared in Sumter County; and

Whereas, she began her community work as a youth with her grandfather as her source of inspiration and tireless dedication to the community; and

Whereas, her grandfather gave her a five hundred dollar slave receipt that belonged to his mother, and he challenged Mrs. Loney to uplift the less fortunate; and

Whereas Mrs. Sylvia A. Loney has striven to carry out the challenges of her grandfather by affording youth an opportunity for development, by promoting growth in Christian character, and by providing services through physical, social, mental, and spiritual training, which has been accomplished through work experience programs at the Catchall Community Center, where Mrs. Loney works and believes that youths must be trained with a purpose in mind and where she demands that all of the youth acquire the necessary skills to succeed in society; and

Whereas, in addition to her youth involvement at the Catchall Community Center, Mrs. Loney, the wife of Benjamin F. Loney, has six children and seven granddaughters; and

Whereas, Mrs. Loney began her education at Hiawatha, a one-room school located in the Claremont area of Sumter County, she attended Morris College, Paine College, Clemson University, and South Carolina State University; and

Whereas, Mrs. Loney's affiliations are many and she is a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, extend their congratulations and best wishes to Mrs. Sylvia A. Loney upon the occasion of her retirement on June 30, 1995, from the High Hills Rural Water Company, Inc.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Loney at a banquet in her honor on Saturday, May 27, 1995.
