TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-25-135 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT CLASSROOM TEACHERS WHO RETIRED UNDER THE STATE RETIREMENT SYSTEM WHILE FULLY CERTIFIED MAY RETURN TO CLASSROOM TEACHING WITHOUT A CURRENT CERTIFICATE FOR A PERIOD NOT TO EXCEED THREE YEARS UNDER GUIDELINES DEVELOPED BY THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 59-25-135. Classroom teachers who retired under the state retirement system while fully certified may return to classroom teaching without a current certificate for a period not to exceed three years under guidelines developed by the State Department of Education. The provisions of this section do not waive any applicable earnings limitation provisions."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
