A BILL

TO AMEND CHAPTER 49, TITLE 15, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO CHANGE OF NAME, BY ADDING SECTION 15-49-60 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE CLERK OF THE FAMILY COURT MUST PROVIDE MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC WITH FORMS AND INSTRUCTIONS SUFFICIENT TO ENABLE A PERSON NOT REPRESENTED BY AN ATTORNEY TO PETITION THE FAMILY COURT FOR A CHANGE OF NAME.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1.    Chapter 49, Title 15 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

    "Section 15-49-60.    The clerk of the family court must provide members of the public with forms and instructions sufficient to enable a person not represented by an attorney to petition the family court for a change of name under the provisions of this chapter."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
