A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO CRESTWOOD HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR MADISON SCRIVEN OF SUMTER FOR HIS DEDICATION TO HELPING OTHERS AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON RECEIVING THE SALVATION ARMY BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB YOUTH OF THE YEAR AWARD FOR NORTH AND SOUTH CAROLINA, ALLOWING HIM TO COMPETE FOR THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF AMERICA YOUTH OF THE YEAR AWARD.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize young people in this State who are dedicated to giving their time and energy to improving their communities; and

Whereas, members of Boys and Girls Clubs across this country are able to make a difference in many lives in their home towns while learning the importance of academics, personal growth, and effective communication from trained professionals and volunteers who are dedicated to developing a group of future leaders; and

Whereas, Madison Scriven, 18, of Sumter is a member of the Sumter Boys and Girls Club and has been able to gain invaluable knowledge and experience for the past twelve years, shaping him into a caring and patient young man; and

Whereas, Madison's parents, Jessirita and Stanley Scriven, have also been instrumental in encouraging him to develop leadership skills which will greatly aid him in the future; and

Whereas, on a recent weekend retreat with four hundred other Boys and Girls Club members from across the Carolinas, Madison Scriven received the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year Award for North and South Carolina, which included a scholarship as well; and

Whereas, upon reception of this honor, he became eligible to compete for the Boys and Girls Club of America Youth of the Year Award and a ten thousand dollar scholarship sponsored by the Carolina Panthers; and

Whereas, at the conclusion of this school year, Madison Scriven will graduate at the top of his class from Crestwood High School and plans to attend Voorhees College where he will major in education; and

Whereas, although soft-spoken, Madison Scriven has influenced the lives of many and is a role model for the children he has helped during his many years with the Sumter Boys and Girls Club. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their appreciation to Crestwood High School Senior Madison Scriven of Sumter for his dedication to helping others and congratulate him on receiving the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year Award for North and South Carolina, allowing him to compete for the Boys and Girls Club of America Youth of the Year Award.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Madison Scriven.
