AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 50-3-316, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO CRITERIA FOR HIRING NATURAL RESOURCES ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS, SO AS TO REVISE THE RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR THESE ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS, AND TO DELETE PROVISIONS PERTAINING TO THE FUNDING OF THE COMPENSATION OF THESE ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Enforcement officers
SECTION 1. Section 50-3-316 of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 458 of 1996, is further amended to read:
"Section 50-3-316. In employing enforcement officers, the department shall use the criteria as required by the Office of Human Resources and the department. The criteria must include, but are not limited to, a written examination, physical examination, and interview. Each applicant is required to perform at minimal levels as required by the Office of Human Resources and the department. The department shall employ the most qualified applicants. An enforcement officer must reside within the county in which he is assigned, provided that the director, in his discretion, may allow an officer to reside outside the county under special hardship circumstances."
Time effective
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
