A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE HEMINGWAY HIGH SCHOOL BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM OF WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY ON ITS GREAT 2005-2006 SEASON WHICH RESULTED IN THEIR WINNING THE CLASS A LOWER STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND THE REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND COACH BARRY MCFADDEN FOR THESE IMPRESSIVE ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

Whereas, the Hemingway High School Boys Basketball Team had a remarkable 2005-2006 season ending with an incredible 27-2 overall record including an undefeated 10-0 mark in their region; and

Whereas, Coach Barry McFadden along with his assistant coaches, Steve Jordan and Perry McCarty, were able to find the perfect mix among the players to consistently win games throughout the entire season; and

Whereas, the Tigers won their respective region championship and lower state championship before coming up just short of a State Championship in a loss to Calhoun County High School in the finals of the Class A Boys State Championship game; and

Whereas, despite the loss to Calhoun County, the Tigers compiled a long list of impressive teams that fell victim to the Hemingway boys' undeniable talent; and

Whereas, the Tigers' had a deep bench with fourteen players on the team including: Sterling Blunt, Tirrell Cooper, Tres Dollard, Tashan Fredrick, Antoine Johnson, Brandon Julious, Bryant Julious, Xavier Miller, Jacob Wesmith, Jamar Peterson, Nathan Ray, Rashad Thompson, Jonathan Wilson, and Javon Woodberry; and

Whereas, Bryant Julious was named Class A Player of the Year and Mr. Hoop Zone. He was selected to the All-Conference and All-State team. He was named to the North Carolina/South Carolina All-Star game and to the Pepsi Classic All-Tournament team. This outstanding young man also became the all-time leading points scorer at Hemingway High School; and

Whereas, fellow teammate Sterling Blunt has received a number of accolades this season. He was selected as a member of the All-Conference team. He was named to the North/South team, and he finished the season as Hemingway's all-time leading rebounder; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pride in recognizing the young men of the Hemingway High School boys' basketball team on an outstanding season and in honoring them as tremendous model-student athletes who demonstrate the rewards of perseverance and teamwork. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives congratulate the Hemingway High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team of Williamsburg County on its great 2005-2006 season which resulted in their winning the Class A Lower State Championship and the Regional Championship and honor the players and Coach Barry McFadden for these impressive accomplishments.
