A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE WALTER ALEXANDER LEGETTE, JR., OF MARION, FOR OBTAINING THE ELITE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT WITH THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA, AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HIM IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Walter Alexander LeGette, Jr., was born October 10, 1990, to Walter and Gwen LeGette. A member of Troop 708, Walt recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout; and

Whereas, participating in the Boy Scouts of America requires dedication and a long-term commitment to community service; and

Whereas, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout is a tremendous honor that very few scouts attain and is recognized as one of the most prestigious awards that a young man can earn; and

Whereas, in addition to being active within the troop, demonstrating the principles of the Scout Oath and Law daily, and earning at least twenty-one merit badges, it is also necessary to serve in a leadership capacity, work on service projects, and write an essay detailing ambitions and life goals; and

Whereas, for his service project, Walt LeGette refurbished an old and dilapidated cemetery. He removed debris, cut down overgrown trees, cleaned and restored the headstones, and raised over one thousand dollars to erect a monument with the names and dates of birth and death of each person buried in the cemetery; and

Whereas, Walt is an extraordinarily well-rounded individual who attends Centenary United Methodist Church and Pee Dee Academy, where he is a member of the Varsity Tennis Team, Biology Club, Spanish Club, Yearbook Staff, and Junior Honor Society; and

Whereas, a role model to other youth in his community, Walt also volunteers for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life; and

Whereas, Walt's long and arduous path to Eagle Scout will be rewarded at the Court of Honor on Sunday, November 26, 2006; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives is proud to congratulate young South Carolinians like Walter Alexander LeGette, Jr., who selflessly give of their time, talents, and energy to better their local communities, the State, and ultimately our nation. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Walter Alexander LeGette, Jr., of Marion, for obtaining the elite rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, and extend best wishes to him in all of his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Eagle Scout, Walter Alexander LeGette, Jr., of Marion.
