VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO CONGRATULATE MRS. MAYBELL LANGLEY DAVIS, OF BERKELEY COUNTY, ON THE OCCASION OF HER NINETY-FIFTH BIRTHDAY, AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND CONTINUED HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Mrs. Maybell Langley Davis will celebrate her ninety-fifth birthday on April 12, 2008; and
Whereas, Mrs. Davis was born on April 12, 1913, just a few years after the dawn of the twentieth century, and she has been witness to nearly all the incredible changes and developments that have come to this nation from that time into the twenty-first century; and
Whereas, the daughter of Moses and Rebecca Langley, she wed the late Reverend William Davis in 1930 and spent her years as a dedicated wife and mother and faithful employee of Wometco Food Services. William and Maybell Davis were married fifty-five years and lovingly parented five children, Collins, Veronica, Patricia, Alicia, and Levolia, who have given their parents the joy of twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and
Whereas, especially fond of zinnias, azaleas, and amaryllis, this avid gardener still enjoys her vegetable and flower patches, now nurtured by her family, and daily keeps sharp by reading her Post and Courier, to which she has subscribed for many years; and
Whereas, in her hometown of Shulerville, Mrs. Davis attends Wesley AME Church, where in the past she was named Mother of the Year and served in the choir and other church ministries. Not one to neglect her civic duty, for years she volunteered many hours as a poll worker for the Shulerville/Honey Hill voting precinct; and
Whereas, in recognition of her ninety-fifth birthday, Mrs. Davis's family members will host a celebratory gathering on April 12, 2008, at Cypress Gardens, one of Mrs. Davis's favorite places; and
Whereas, the House of Representatives is proud to honor this truly lovely lady at the celebration of her ninety-fifth birthday and joins with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Mrs. Maybell Langley Davis, of Berkeley County, on the occasion of her ninety-fifth birthday, and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and continued health and happiness.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Davis.
