A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND MARTHA DABBS GREENWAY OF SUMTER COUNTY FOR MORE THAN THIRTY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING DEDICATED PUBLIC SERVICE AND TO WISH HER MUCH SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to recognize Martha Dabbs Greenway as she retires from her position as Executive Director of the Sumter County Cultural Commission, on which she has served for over thirty years, and as Manager of the Sumter County Cultural Center since 1994; and

Whereas, Martha Dabbs Greenway was born in Dabbs Crossroads in central South Carolina, where she lives today in the family farmhouse built by her grandfather. Though she has left the comfort of this familiar setting at various times in her life to pursue new opportunities and adventures, her Southern roots have always called her home; and

Whereas, since having returned to South Carolina in 1977, the world now comes to Martha Dabbs Greenway through her work with the Cultural Commission and Cultural Center, providing her with an extraordinary forum through which she has been able to share her knowledge and love of the arts with countless South Carolinians; and

Whereas, Martha Dabbs Greenway has broadened the experiences and enriched lives of the residents of Sumter County and beyond through the remarkably talented local and international artists in the fields of visual art, music, theatre, dance, and literature that she has brought to the Cultural Center; and

Whereas, Martha Dabbs Greenway has served her community through myriad volunteer roles, including President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, and Corresponding Secretary of the Pilot Club of Sumter and Chapter Chairman of the American Red Cross. She has also served on the United Way Board of Directors and has been a member of The Forum, the South Carolina Chapter of Pi Beta Phi Sorority, and the Chamber of Commerce; and

Whereas, in addition of sharing her life and her family home with her beloved tabby companions, Sonoma and Raphael, her love of family and interest in history has been inspired by generations of Dabbs' historians, poets, and letter writers to further delve into and elaborate upon the written Dabbs' family history; and

Whereas, with much appreciation for her many years of selfless service and exceptional contributions not only to Sumter County, but also the to the State of South Carolina, it is proper and fitting for the members of the South Carolina General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to recognize such a treasured daughter of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and commend Martha Dabbs Greenway of Sumter County for more than thirty years of outstanding dedicated public service and to wish her much success and happiness in all her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Martha Dabbs Greenway.
