A concurrent RESOLUTION

To recognize and honor South carolina veterans who served in the global war on terrorism and to acknowledge the sacrifices and contributions of the men and women from this state who served in this conflict.

Whereas, the Global War on Terrorism was a global military campaign initiated by the United States in response to the attacks on September 11, 2001; and

Whereas, more than fifty-five thousand active-duty service members from South Carolina, representing all branches of the United States Armed Forces, served honorably in the Global War on Terrorism; and

Whereas, many South Carolinians served with distinction in critical operations during this conflict, including Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq; and

Whereas, these brave men and women demonstrated extraordinary courage, dedication, and patriotism in defense of the freedoms and security of the United States; and

Whereas, more than one hundred South Carolinians made the ultimate sacrifice, giving their lives in service to their State and Nation, and countless others returned home bearing the visible and invisible wounds of war; and

Whereas, the families of these service members have also borne significant sacrifices in support of their loved ones' service to the Nation.  Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor South Carolina veterans who served in the Global War on Terrorism and acknowledge the sacrifices and contributions of the men and women from our State who served in this conflict.

Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be presented to appropriate veterans' organizations and agencies throughout South Carolina as a token of the General Assembly's appreciation and enduring respect.
