________

The committee on House Invitations and Memorial Resolutions

To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (S. 502) to request that the Department of Transportation name the stretch of Knights Hill Road from Springdale Drive to Carter Street in Kershaw County "Steeplechase Thoroughfare, etc., respectfully

Report:

That they have duly and carefully considered the same, and recommend that the same do pass:

DENNIS MOSS for Committee.

_______

A concurrent RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE STRETCH OF KNIGHTS HILL ROAD FROM SPRINGDALE DRIVE TO CARTER STREET IN kershaw COUNTY "STEEPLECHASE THOROUGHFARE OF AMERICA" AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS AT THIS LOCATION CONTAINING THE DESIGNATION.

Whereas, Camden is recognized as the "Steeplechase Capital of the World" and has a long-standing tradition of equestrian excellence, serving as home to premier steeplechase events such as the historic Carolina Cup and the Colonial Cup; and

Whereas, the Springdale Race Course, located along Knights Hill Road, has been the heart of American steeplechase racing for decades, attracting thousands of spectators and equestrian enthusiasts to Camden each year; and

Whereas, the National Steeplechase Museum, also located along this corridor, serves as the only institution in the United States dedicated exclusively to preserving the rich heritage and legacy of steeplechase racing; and

Whereas, the equine industry plays a vital role in the economic and cultural fabric of Camden, contributing significantly to tourism, local businesses, and community identity; and

Whereas, designating this portion of Knights Hill Road as the Steeplechase Thoroughfare of America would serve as a tribute to Camden's pivotal role in the sport of steeplechase racing and honor its ongoing contributions to equestrian excellence; and

Whereas, it would be only fitting and proper to recognize the importance of this corridor and its significance to the sport of steeplechase racing by naming it accordingly. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, request that the Department of Transportation name the stretch of Knights Hill Road from Springdale Drive to Carter Street in Kershaw County "Steeplechase Thoroughfare of America" and erect appropriate markers or signs at this location containing the designation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
